Quick & Tasty Pizzas in the Camp Oven
Pizzas are always popular, with both adults and kids, and while it is so easy to pick up the phone and order a pizza for home delivery, that isn’t possible while you are camping. You can however make your own delicious and easy pizzas in the camp oven or on the stove top using a stove top oven, such as the Coleman Stovetop Oven.
If using your camp oven, don’t forget to place the pizza tray on a trivet and to have the oven nice and hot before it goes it. Place the camp oven on a bed of coals and add some coals to the lid to help brown the top of the pizza.
The pizza recipes given are very simple and easy to make, and all are very tasty!!
Hint: use aluminium trays and they produce a crispy pizza base.
Ham & Egg Pizza
Serves 6
1 medium or large prepared pizza base
olive oil spray
1/4 cup tomato puree or pasta sauce
175gm shaved ham – roughly chopped
1 1/2 cups grated tasty cheese
4 to 6 x 50gm eggs
salt, pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 220∞C.
Lightly spray a pizza tray with oil.
Spread top of pizza base with tomato sauce.
Spread ham evenly over the sauce, then top evenly with the cheese.
Form 6 hollows, which will take an egg, in the ham/cheese mix, towards the edge of the pizza.
Carefully break 1 egg and drop into a hollow; continue with all the eggs.
Season to taste.
Bake in a hot oven for approx 10 to 15 mins or until the base is crisp and light brown and the eggs cooked.
Cut into wedges and serve immediately.
Potato & Thyme Pizza
1 prepared pizza base (size depending on how many you are feeding)
olive oil spray
1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
2 x potatoes – washed and sliced thinly
2 tspns dried thyme leaves (or try another of your favourite herbs)
1 clove garlic – sliced thinly (or use crushed or minced garlic – jar variety, or sprinkle with dried garlic flakes)
salt & pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 220∞C.
Lightly spray a pizza tray with oil.
Spread cheese evenly over the base of the pizza, then arrange the potato slices evenly over the top.
Sprinkle over the thyme and garlic.
Spray with olive oil and season to taste.
Bake in a hot oven for approx 10 to 15 mins or until the base is crisp and light brown and the potatoes tender and the top lightly browned.
Cut into wedges and serve immediately.Outback Cooking Events & Competitions link
