Garmin GPS 11 & Magellan Meridian Gold

For our navigation work we are currently running a Garmin GPS 11 with external antenna which is permanently mounted in the vehilce.

 

 

 

 

 

We also run a Magellan Meridian Gold GPS with an inbuilt antenna and this unit is mounted on a bracket which we can easily move from vehicle to vehicle, as well as taking it as a hand-held unit. Both units are excellent, having 12-channels and a heap of waypoint capability. Still we probably use the Magellan unit more as it has some good Aussie street and track map software, HEMA map software including the fabulous Desert Tracks Maps and more to come. We've also now added the technology and a PDA computer for on-the-road mapping updates (for our books) which is something most people don't require! Still some people do run this stuff, but a good GPS with a big screen, such as the Magellan FX324 Map GPS unit, would do everything and you don't need to take a bloody laptop on your trip! That's why we only done a few trips before we changed to a PDA.
