Northeast Victoria and Southeast New South Wales

We had hardly got back from Russia (see Russia Mongolia Overland) and Ron was away again leading a LOE trip with Macca and Karen across the Great Australian Bight, from Esperance, WA to Bairds Bay, SA (link coming soon) . After that and just 24 hours at home and Ron was away again, this time with the boys at 4x4 Australia magazine for the annual 4x4 Of The Year testing.

All met up in Corryong and we then headed south through that magnificent mountain country to Mt Pinnabar and the headwaters of the Murray River. We wanted to go up onto the Davies High Plains but the annual track closure was still in force so we headed for Jindabyne and then the Snowy River valley, camping at a good light spot where the Little River joins the Snowy south of McKillops Bridge.

Next day we stopped at the historic suspension bridge near Amboyne to photograph the cars before striking east towards Eden. Along the way we took in a few of the 4WD tracks around Mt Imlay and Imlay Creek - they were good fun but don't go there if you are inexperienced or ill prepared.

The trip and the testing finished at Cooma after taking in miles of dry and dusty back roads across the Monaro Plains. Boy that country needs a good drink - luckily a bit fell after we left but they need more. Still it's a top place to visit with the region dotted with pleasant towns and villages.

View looking south down the Snow River Valley.

See you in the bush.

Ron and Viv.
