SOJOURN TO AFRICA
![]()
Well, we are back from nearly 5 weeks in southern Africa. What a trip – we had a ball. Toured Kruger National Park for eight days, hunted for a week in the Limpopo valley of northern South Africa then flew to Mozambique for a weeks hunting in the Zambezi Delta.
After that we headed back to Johannesburg and picked up a Patrol for 10 days touring Namibia and the west coast of South Africa. The dunes of the Namib Desert make ‘Big Red’ in the Simpson Desert look tiny. The biggest dune we saw were in the Sossusvlei area and these have been measured at close to 390 metres (1250-1300 feet) above the valley floor. They are impressive mountains of sand! While you can’t drive on these as they are in the Namib National Park, you can get into some dunes nearly as big near the tourist outpost of Swakopmund on the Atlantic coast. We had a bit of fun on these big bare dunes!
