OUTBACK COOKING EVENTS & COMPETITIONS

All over Australia many country towns have Camp Oven Cooking competitions. They are usually held in conjunction with other programs and events held over a weekend, such as country music festivals and art exhibitions, making the whole weekend a great time to be in town. You can either become involved and compete, or simply just be an interested bystanding and maybe learn some tips on camp oven cooking.

Camp Cookout - Aramac, Qld - May

Outdoor Camp Kitchen Challenge - Albion Park, NSW - May
Held later on in May, the Outdoor Camp Kitchen Challenge is set in the grounds of the Albion Park Showground, cnr Tongarra Road & Illawarra Highway, Albion Park, NSW, and is a cooking competition open to novice and experienced outdoor camp oven, BBQ or bush cooks.
The day's activities include Cooking Competition, Demonstrations, Local Produce Stalls, Poets Breakfast and Live Music.

The Trundle Bush Tucker Day - Trundle, NSW - September
Situated approximately 65km North-West of Parkes, the rural community of Trundle holds the bush cook competition in the showground and it is all about creating culinary delights in traditional camp ovens over open fires. Features Bush Cooking Competitions, Bush Tucker Tasting, Kelly's National Damper Throw, kids competitions, whipcracking workshop and entertainment for the whole family. Free camping, showers and toilets on site.
Entertainment usually includes Yard Dog Trial, Billy Boiling competitions, Damper Throwing, Tug-o-war and music - a great day for the whole family.

Australian Camp Oven Festival - Millmerran, Qld - October
In early October you can try your hand and see how good a bush cook you are at the Australian Camp Oven Festival in Millmerran, at the Millmerran Showgrounds, Cecil Plains Rod, Millmerran. Qld.
The weekend program includes a Camp Oven Cooking Workshop, Poets Breakfast, Country Music, Merchandise for sale, and lots more fun to be had by all the family.

Cookout Out Back - Blinmen, SA - October
The Blinmen Hotel Camp Oven Cook Off (COB) is held annually in early October in the tiny town of Blinman in the northern Flinders Ranges. The historic Blinman Hote forms a focus, while the remaining street precinct is the venue for exhibitions, wine and beer tasting, cooking demonstrations, food outlets, trade displays and live music.Besides the Cook Off, events also include the Great South Australian Damper Throw and Swag Rolling competitions.

National Camp Oven Festival - Casino, NSW - October
Held early October at Casino MotorhomeVillage in Casino, NSW, where a purpose built BBQ Hut with a large camp oven pit has been constructed. Not only can you enjoy the camp oven cook off but there are lots of other activities including seminars, art and craft classes, competitions, disc bowls games, demonstrations of all sorts and more!

The Great Victorian Camp Oven Festival - Heyfield, Vic
Held early November, the Heyfield Traders & Tourism Association, in conjunction with Heyfield Lions, have secured the Great Victorian Camp Oven Festival as an annual event to raise the profile of Heyfield as the gateway to the Victorian alps.The festival partners with the Lake Glenmaggie boat races and there is also an array of entertainment available including community market, camping and cooking displays, Lions Derby Day Auction, Ute Show, carnival rides, whip cracking and country music.
